The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a national level entrance examination for entry into management programmes. Since 2016, the CMAT was held only once in the month of January.  Till 2018, it was conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) every year as per the directions of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

For 2019, Test will be conducted by the NTA. The CMAT is a three hour computer based online test which is conducted in a single session to evaluate the candidate's ability across various segments like Quantitative Technique, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension and General Awareness. This test facilitates Institutions to select suitable graduate candidates for admission in all Management programs. The CMAT score is accepted by all AICTE-Approved Institutions/ University Departments/ Constituent Colleges/ Affiliated Colleges.

In the year 2012-14, CMAT had replaced MH-CET (MH-CET was discontinued in 2012) and was conducted twice in a year once in September and in February. But, last year AICTE had conducted CMAT only once in a year. For this year CMAT 2019 shall be conducted in 2 slots by the NTA (National testing agency).

Number of students taking the CMAT:

  • CMAT 2012 was taken by approximately 70,000 students in its first year.
  • CMAT 2013 (first test) was taken by 42,823 students.
  • CMAT 2013 (second test) was taken by 1, 17,437 students. 
  • An additional test was conducted in May, primarily for students who could not take the prior tests. A student who gave both the attempts could not take the May CMAT. This additional test was taken by 45,157 students.
  • CMAT 2014 (first test) was taken by 83,662 students.
  • CMAT 2014 (second test) was taken by 88,942 students.
  • CMAT January 2016 was taken by 72,000 students.
  • CMAT January 2017 was taken by 59,181 students.
  • CMAT January 2018 was taken by 64,448 students.

Eligibility for CMAT 2019

  • Must be a citizen of India.
  • Graduates in any discipline can apply for CMAT exam.
  • Final year students of Graduate Courses (10+2+3) whose result will be declared before commencement of admission for academic year 2019-20 can also apply for CMAT online exam.
  • There is no age restriction for appearing in CMAT-2019.

Eligibility for Management programs (PGDM, MBA and similar)

  • Recognized Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 Yrs duration Obtained at least 50% (45% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category) at the qualifying Examination. Final year students of Graduate Courses can also apply.
  • Test mode: Computer Based Test

Conducted: Once a year in the month of January.

Duration: 180 Minutes (3 hours)

Marking scheme: 4 marks each for every question, 1 mark negative marking for every wrong answer.
